Hello everyone,
I'm new to this...but I was wondering if anyone could help me? I am 20 yrs old, Metis and I work with Aboriginal girls that are struggling with addictions, being exploited, family abuse...the list goes on. I was just wondering if any of you could help me find some really nice prayers or teachings that these young women could learn from...

Re: Womens Prayers and Teachings?
Wed, December 6, 2006 - 9:39 AMHi Jamie, I ran across this a while back and had bookmarked it, I don't know anything about this person , but maybe this can help:

Brenda MacIntyre, Medicine Song Woman -Creating Confidence through Aboriginal Tradition.
Confidence-Building, Women's Empowerment,
Health and Wellness, Personal Growth, Drumming Circles
2007 National Aboriginal Achievement Awards nominee Brenda MacIntyre is a Juno award-winning singer, Native American traditional drummer and inspirational speaker.
Books I have read:
Sister Nations : An excellent collection of writings by Native American women. Edited by Heide E. Erdrich and Laura Tohe
Recovering the Sacred
In this powerful book, Winona LaDuke honors the vision and capability of Indigenous peoples as they work to recover from the ravages of the past and to create a path toward ecological and cultural integrity.
both of these are available from
White Earth Land Recovery Project

So glad you are doing this, good luck

Re: Womens Prayers and Teachings?
Thu, March 15, 2007 - 10:48 AMHi Jamie. are you still searching for prayers and teachings? I ran across this book on my shelf - "Grandmothers of the Light: A Medicine Woman's Sourcebook " by Paula Gunn Allen
I've had it for years but sort of forgot about it. I remember really loving back when I read it, learned a lot from it.
Paula Gunn Allen is a Native American poet, literary critic, and novelist of mixed Laguna, Sioux and Lebanese-American descent, grew up at Laguna Pueblo in Cubero, New Mexico.
before posting this I checked Amazon to see if it is still available (I've had it so long I was afraid it might be out of print). I'm not sure, it may be out of print - Amazon doesn't have it but they have links to places to buy it used.
www.amazon.com/gp/product...043-2584814
In checking for it I found another book by her that I did not previously know about, which Amazon does carry. it looks very good as well, and I may order it. It is called "The Sacred Hoop: Recovering the Feminine in American Indian Traditions" by Paula Gunn Allen :

good luck in your work,
